Here are the basics that we know so far:

The Ford F-150

While we wait for the 2024 Ford F-150 to officially debut at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show, we’re thrilled to hear reports about new and improved features. The Ford F-150 is a famous, tried-and-true light-duty pickup with a history spanning over 40 years. The F-150 has consistently offered something for everyone, including get-your-hands-dirty hard workers, weekend off-roaders, and comfortable family road trippers. The 2024 F-150 is expected to continue in the same vein as the 14th generation of this truck, which first debuted in 2021.

We expect the 2024 F-150 to have a similar trim lineup to the 2023 model, including the base XL, Tremor, Platinum, Raptor, and Raptor R. There are rumors among Ford reporters, insiders, and enthusiasts that the automaker may also introduce the Lobo — Spanish for “wolf” — name into the 2024 F-150 model, possibly even as a new trim.

The Toyota Tacoma

The Toyota Tacoma has been around for almost 30 years and is known for its off-road capabilities. For the 2024 model year, the Tacoma has been fully redesigned. Toyota says it’ll add capability features such as a multilink rear suspension and its proprietary Multi-Terrain Select with Crawl Control.

Eight trim levels will be available for this fourth-generation midsize pickup. For 2024, Toyota will introduce the all-new TRD Pro, which is designed for off-road speed, and bring back the PreRunner. Toyota is also introducing the first-ever Trailhunter for rugged overlanding. It will offer two cab and bed configurations.

Towing Capacity

While we don’t have official stats about the 2024 Ford F-150 towing capacity yet, based on previous model years, we can expect it to max out at around 14,000 pounds with proper configuration and equipment. The maximum payload capacity will likely be around 3,325 pounds if the 2024 F-150 remains similar to its earlier models.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma max towing capacity is 6,500 pounds with appropriate equipment for i-FORCE engines and 6,000 pounds for the i-FORCE MAX. With the i-FORCE MAX, the maximum payload capacity is 1,709 pounds.

Fuel Tank Size

We expect the 2024 Ford F-150 will hold between 23 and 36 gallons of gas, depending on configuration and upgrades. While information is not available yet about the 2024 Toyota Tacoma fuel tank size, the 2023 model has a capacity of 21.1 gallons.

Interior

For the interiors, here’s what we know so far:

The Ford F-150

Although nothing official has been released about the 2024 Ford F-150’s interior, we expect to see some upgrades and refreshing changes in the design. There are reports of a new vertical infotainment screen and a new dashboard similar to that in the 2023 Ford Super Duty. We’ve also heard that a Google infotainment system may be on the horizon. Of course, we expect the 2024 F-150 to continue providing drivers and passengers with a spacious, comfortable ride and a range of technology and other interior features.

We know a bit more about the interior of the Platinum Black edition of the 2024 F-150 Lightning — a limited-availability option for the all-electric Lightning. The Platinum Black edition interior includes a 15.5-inch touch screen, an automatic walk-away lock function, and the BlueCruise 1.2 hands-free driving assist. This special edition Lightning also offers an available Pro Power Onboard power generator, which activates upon unlocking the truck.

The Toyota Tacoma

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma interior has been redesigned and improved with a modern focus. It has an 8-inch touch screen with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Limited trim will come with luxuries such as a 14-inch multimedia touch screen, power retractable sidesteps, and a digital rearview mirror.

Exterior

Although we haven’t had an official debut of the 2024 Ford F-150 exterior, there are reports of prototypes and test models out and about. Rumored cosmetic changes include updates to the grille and headlights, along with the addition of a modular front bumper. We’ve also heard that 22-inch wheels may become available. The Ford F-140 Lightning Platinum Black edition glides on 22-inch bespoke black wheels.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is designed with Baja racing trucks in mind, and its rugged stance and high lift invoke its off-roading prowess. According to Toyota, the new Tacoma will offer a power-up-down tailgate. The 2024 model is designed to pair well with an assortment of genuine Toyota accessories, letting you customize your ride.

Safety

The 2024 Ford F-150 will likely include a similar safety package to the 2023 model, including standard automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assist. In 2023, optional features included adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring. We fully expect the 2024 Ford F-150 to be built from the ground up with safety in mind.

All 2024 Toyota Tacoma trims will come with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. This package includes safety features and systems such as a pre-collision system, lane departure alert, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, and the new proactive driving assist.

Hybrid Options

We’ve heard that a new hybrid variant may join the 2024 F-150 for its debut at the Detroit Auto Show. The 2023 Ford F-150 hybrid comes with a 3.5L PowerBoost V-6 engine. Right now, we can’t say for sure whether the new variant has an updated PowerBoost system or powertrain or if it’s even an all-new hybrid version of the F-150.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma includes a hybrid i-FORCE MAX engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. So far, Toyota has not announced an all-electric 2024 Tacoma.

Release Dates

The 2024 Ford F-150 is expected to debut at the Detroit Auto Show, which runs from Sept. 13 to 24, 2023.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma premiered on May 19, 2023, in Puako, Hawaii. The i-FORCE Tacoma is predicted to be available in dealerships by the end of 2023, and the i-FORCE MAX Tacoma will be available in the spring of 2024.
